Dimapur, Feb. 13 (EMN): A health seminar focusing on the concept of health and wellness centres for village health centres and health unit staffs in Dimapur district was held on February 13.
The programme was conducted in the office of the Dimapur chief medical officer, updates on Wednesday stated.
The district’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, highlighted the six sub-centres that were upgraded to ‘health and wellness centres.’
The sub centres are Pimla sub-centre, Doyapur sub-centre, Deizephe sub-centre, Hovishe sub-centre, Zukihe sub-centre, and Hukai sub-centre.
The medical officer informed the village health centres and health unit staff that the success of the health and wellness centres depends on the active participation and involvement of the communities and the health workers.
The medical officer warned that ‘if the service delivery and performance of the newly upgraded health and wellness centres do not improve, the status of upgrade will be given to other health units.’
The deputy chief medical officer of Dimapur Dr. Antoly Swu was resource person. She called a privilege for the health units to be upgraded to health and wellness centres.
The centre is an upgrade from sub-centre and will have more facilities, more staff, and better infrastructure.
The new centres will provide services such as blood testing, screening for various cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, etc. and will also provide services related to non-communicable diseases, the updates stated.
Further, the centres will have a community health officer who has undergone a special six-month training to manage the centre and will be a qualified person to handle emergency situations when there are no doctors available. With the upgrade, additional rooms besides labour rooms will be constructed where necessary.
Also, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Swu highlighted the Ayushman Bharat Project and urged the village health centres to educate their communities. She urged them to check the beneficiary lists and obtain e-health cards so as to avail the benefits.
The e-health card can be obtained from the district hospital of Dimapur, community health centres of Medziphema, Dhansiripar; primary health centres of Niuland, and Kuhuboto.
