Health melas bring free care to Wokha, Phek, and Peren

- DIMAPUR — In a
bid to provide essential healthcare services to remote areas, the district
health societies organised health melas across Wokha, Phek, and Peren districts.
- Wokha: A Mela was
held at Pangti village in Wokha district on Wednesday, providing free health
services such as general medical check-ups, eye screening, dental screening,
ear, nose, and throat (ENT) check-ups, antenatal care (ANC) check-ups,
non-communicable disease (NCD) screening, generation of Pradhan Mantri-Jan
Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)/Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) cards,
AYUSH, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria screening, among others.
- A total of 130 people were registered for outpatient
department (OPD) cases, and free medicines were provided to them, according to
a press release.
- During the health mela, focus group discussions (FGDs) and
interpersonal communication were carried out by the Information, Education and
Communication (IEC) staff on topics such as maternal health, child health,
family planning, and adolescent health.
- In addition, the IEC staff distributed IEC leaflets on
various health topics to the participants. The Health Mela was organised with
the active support of the ASHAs, community leaders, and members of Pangti
village.
- Phek: Melas were
held at Thetsumi under Pfutsero block and at Akhegwo under Meluri block on
March 21 and 22, with the main objectives of providing free medical services to
remote areas and to populations where access to healthcare services is limited.
- It also aimed to promote preventive health measures on
various health issues and foster health awareness within the community.
- Altogether, 213 patients were screened for various health
issues under the programmes of maternal health, child health and family
planning; screening for NCD; dental health; physiotherapy; AYUSH; and blood
tests for HIV&AIDS, syphilis, hepatitis, scrub typhus, rapid diagnostic
tests (RDT) and blood grouping.
- Besides health services, IEC activities were carried out.
IEC materials printed in local dialects on various health issues were
distributed, and Interpersonal Communication (IPC) and FGDs were conducted with
different target groups on maternal health, child health, NCD, family planning,
PM-JAY, and other topics.
- A total of 12 antenatal care (ANC) screenings were
conducted, and all components for ANCs were provided.
- Peren: Melas were
also held in Nkialwa and Lilen villages under Tening and Jalukie Blocks on
March 18 and 25.
- At the melas, community members had access to free medicines
and health services such as general check-ups, dental services, paediatric
consultations, ophthalmic services, ANCs, vaccinations, NCD screening, a mobile
ICTC to provide HIV counselling and testing services, and FGDs with the
targeted groups of pregnant women, lactating mothers, eligible couples, and
youths, according to a press release from the CMO office, Peren.
- The community was also educated on household hygiene and
other communicable diseases. FGDs and one-to-one sessions were conducted on
child health, maternal health, and family planning.
- Health services and medicines were provided free of cost to
all the patients. The camp examined 239 patients. Various ailments, including
common cough and cold and other diseases prevalent in the area, were addressed.
- A total of 21 medical prescriptions, 50 HIV tests, 16 blood
groupings, 7 Hb%, 101 blood pressure (BP) measurements, 101 random blood sugar
(RBS) tests, 15 hepatitis screenings, 21 BDRL tests, 33 screenings for
tuberculosis (TB) investigation, 10 ANC check-ups, and 15 dental cases were
carried out. Additionally, 10 copper T insertions and 19 PM-JAY/CMHIS cards
were created and issued, and 93 eye cases were screened.
- Further, nutritional packages were also provided to pregnant
and lactating mothers. Pamphlets and leaflets were distributed free of charge.
