Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): The Department of Health and Family Welfare on Fri. called on the citizens of Nagaland to join hands and support the upcoming Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) which will be kick started on Oct. 3 and make the state free of Measles and Rubella diseases.
The Principal director of Department of Health and family welfare, Dr. Vikeyie Losu said that the neighbouring states like like Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have all completed the campaign successfully.
“A campaign of this magnitude is not easy and we have been preparing since last 4 months. Our department has been working very closely with education, social welfare, IPR, other line departments, Civil society organizations, UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF, UNDP) and Faith-based organizations. I on behalf of the department extend our gratitude to each of them for the continuous support,” the release.
“This vaccine has been in use for the last 46 years in the private sector as MMR. Government now, through MR campaign plans to reach out to all children with this costly vaccine, free of cost. Already 12 crore children have received MR vaccine in our country during the campaign,” said Losu.
Dispelling the rumours abuut the adverse effect of the vaccine among certain section of the soceity, Losu said that the vaccine is safe.
“I appeal to all to dispel all fears and come forward to vaccinate your child, and give them double protection with just one dose,” the principal director stated.
