Kohima, June 20 (EMN): Under the Kayakalp scheme- Clean Hospital Award for public health facilities, the department of Health And Family Welfare has given cash awards and citations to district hospitals, primary health centres (PHC) and community health centres (CHC) from the across the state today.
Kayakalp is an initiative of the government of India to promote public health facilities which was launched by the Union Home minister on May 15 2015. The primary objective of the scheme is to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices, to incentivize public healthcare facilities that show exemplary performance in cleanliness and infection control and to inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment to sustain the same.
In the district hospital category, scoring a total of 82% in the overall assessment, District Hospital Phek was adjudged as the first followed by Wokha scoring 77.4% while commendation award was given away to Mon and Mokokchung. The award carries a cash prize of INR 30 lakh and INR 20 lakh for the first and second and INR 3 lakh for commendation prize.
CHC Viswema scoring 81.4% was adjudged as the winner in the CHC category by winning INR 10 lakh while Noklak, Tuensang scoring 76.4% went home richer winning INR 5 lakh. The commendation prize carrying a cash award of INR 1 lakh was given to Sanis and Tuli.
Best PHC award carrying a cash award of INR 2 lakh was awarded to PHC Khonoma, Kuhuboto , Chukitong, Chizami, Angangba, and Mokokchung UPHC while commendation award was given to Longpang under Tuensang district; Nyiro and Wuzhuro,under Wokha district; Athibung, Peren and Seikhazou UPHC under Kohima district.
Giving a brief highlights on Kayakalp, state programme officer NHM, Dr. Thanghoi Lam said assessment was carried out in six areas viz. hospital upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control, support services and hygiene promotions.
Following the launching of the programme, Dr. Lam said a national level orientation of state level officers was held on June 23 2015 in New Delhi, where the chief medical officers and district level official were oriented.
The scheme, he informed was rolled out in all 11 district of Nagaland and according to the GoI guidelines and pre-defined checklists, internal assessment of the hospitals was done by the quality team of the facility.
Dr. Lam further informed that hospitals scoring more than 70% were recommended by district level award committee for external assessment to state QA unit while senior program officials from the directorate, quality assurance consultant NHM, NBCC representative and partners like UNICEF conducted the external assessment.
Congratulating the awardees, minister for Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom maintained that despite the problems and issues if all can come and work together, Nagaland can become one of the best in the country.
Stressing on the importance of keeping hospitals clean and hygienic, Phom suggested that doctors and nurses should organise mass social work once in every week to create awareness and advocate the same among the citizens.
Also speaking on the occasion, Commissioner-Secretary I Himato Zhimomi, congratulated the winners and urged them to continue with the same spirit in future.
While it has become mandatory to participate in this scheme, Himato asked all those districts who did not participate to take up this programme seriously stating that this is an opportunity for to upgrade and improve the quality of health care services to the community.
