Health camps in Wokha and Peren provided free medical and veterinary services to residents and livestock owners.
DIMAPUR — Public and animal health camps were conducted in Wokha and Peren districts on September 12 and 11, providing medical and veterinary services to residents and livestock owners.
Wokha: In Wokha district, the District Health Society Wokha, in collaboration with the 17th Assam Rifles Bhandari, organised a Reproductive Child Health (RCH) Camp at Community Health Centre (CHC) Bhandari on Saturday.
Dr. Lydia Tsopoe, Medical Officer, Bhandari CHC, welcomed the participants and thanked Major Hussain, who led the 17th Assam Rifles team, and the chief medical officer (CMO), Wokha, for supporting the camp.
Dr. Abenthung Murry, District Tuberculosis Officer, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Wokha, spoke on the importance of tuberculosis screening and explained symptoms including cough or fever lasting more than two weeks, weight loss or loss of appetite, blood in sputum, chest pain or breathlessness, and history of contact with TB patients. He advised people with symptoms to seek medical treatment and informed them about free treatment at designated health facilities.
Mhonbeni Ezung, District Programme Manager, National Health Mission, explained the importance of RCH and its impact on pregnant women and maternal and child health. Bhandari Town Council Chairman Khonthungia Odyuo appreciated the medical team and the 17th Assam Rifles for providing free health services.
Services included general OPD, obstetrics and gynaecology, eye, dental and ENT services, malaria, HIV and TB screening, chest X-ray, Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme card generation and non-communicable disease screening. Free medicines and IEC leaflets on Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, non-communicable diseases and human papillomavirus were also distributed.
Peren: The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Jalukie, Peren, organised an animal health camp at Samziuram village on September 11 under the supervision of Dr. I Shakuntala, Dean of the college, and team leader Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
Village Chairman Jenggai Pamei welcomed the participants, while Dr. A. Palanisammi, Professor and Head, Department of VGO, chaired the programme and encouraged farmers to participate and benefit from it.
According to an update, a technical session covered livestock health, production and reproduction, followed by a farmer-scientist interaction.
Dr. Palanisammi spoke on “Healthy animal is the backbone of farmer’s wealth". Dr. Keneisezo Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex, spoke on “Common pig diseases in Nagaland and its prevention”, while Dr. Chutia spoke on “Reproductive disorders of farm livestock and its management”.
A total of 55 participants, comprising 40 farmers and 15 officials, attended the programme. Free animal health check-ups, treatment, rabies vaccination for dogs, reproductive health check-ups, pregnancy diagnosis and deworming were conducted. Veterinary medicines were also distributed, covering 462 livestock, including 34 dogs, 37 cattle, 83 pigs, 11 cats and 297 poultry.
