DIMAPUR — The
Holy Cross Catholic Youth Association (HCCYA) hosted a seminar on “Youth and
Marriage” at the Holy Cross auditorium in Dimapur on December 7 with Rev. Fr.
Kokto Kurian, youth director of Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), as the
keynote speaker.
The seminar was aimed at addressing the challenges and
opportunities surrounding marriage in the context of modern youth. It
emphasised the importance of understanding marriage as a sacred vocation,
rooted in Christian values and its role in building strong families and
communities, an update from the association stated.
It stated that Fr. Kurian began by discussing the biblical
foundation of marriage, highlighting its spiritual significance and urged the
youth to approach marriage with prayer, discernment and a sense of commitment
rather than succumbing to societal pressures.
He also touched on practical aspects of relationships such
as communication, mutual respect and the importance of shared faith in
fostering a strong marital bond. He addressed concerns about the growing
influence of secularism and the challenges of maintaining Christian values in
contemporary relationships.
In his closing remarks, Fr. Kurian encouraged the youth to
see marriage not as an obligation but as a divine calling that requires
selflessness, patience and grace.
“Marriage is a journey of faith and love. When rooted in
Christ, it becomes a source of joy and fulfillment,” he said.
It stated that interactive sessions allowed participants to
share their thoughts and asked questions, making the seminar lively and
engaging. Topics such as preparing for marriage, handling conflicts and
balancing personal goals with family life were discussed in detail.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the
organising committee, followed by a prayer for the youth and their future
vocations.
It further stated that the initiative reflected the
commitment of the Holy Cross Catholic Youth Association to nurturing
spiritually grounded and responsible young adults ready to embrace their
vocations with faith and conviction.
