Sentencing awaited
Dimapur, Nov. 01 (EMN): The sensational murder case of Nungshilila came to a closure on Oct.17 after the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench convicted the accused Rikumkaba and ruled that the victim's family be compensated.
This was made known through a communiqué from the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority on Wednesday detailing the history of the case and the present judgement.
"After hearing the parties, the Hon’ble High Court by the Judgment and Order dated 17-10-2017, was pleased to quash and set aside the Judgment and Order dated 18-02-2015, of the Learned Sessions Judge Dimapur, passed in G.R. Case No. 339/2013, and found accused Rikumkaba as guilty of having committed offence punishable under Sections 447, 380 and 302 of IPC, " stated the order.
The present case was an appeal made by the sister of the victim praying the court to quash the earlier order of Sessions Judge, Dimapur that acquitted the three accused persons in the case T. Yapang Ao, Samarenba and Santosh Nath and the final judgement passed by the Sessions Judge on 18-02-2015 acquitting the last accused Rikumkaba.
She also prayed the court for a for re-investigation by the CBI and to give adequate relief(s) to the family members of the deceased victim.
The court further directed the sessions judge Dimapur to fix a date for sentence hearing to award appropriate sentence in the presence of the convict.
The court also directed the NLSA to take necessary action for compensating to the family members of the victim.
