Kohima, Sep. 28 (EMN): Nagaland team suffered the second successive defeat at the hands of Puducherry by 2 wickets in their group matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Motibagh Stadium in Vadodara in Gujarat on Friday.
Put in bat, Nagaland team managed to score 202/10 in 45.1 overs. Captain of Nagaland Rongsen Jonathan guided his team to the 200 runs mark by scoring 89 runs off 80 balls (4x8, 6x4) and also scoring his first half century in the tournament. While wicket keeper KB Pawan added 46 runs off 62 balls and opener Nitesh Lochab scored 15 runs for Nagaland.
AM Nayar claimed four wickets and V Marimthu took two wickets for Puducherry during the match.
In reply, Puducherry rode on P Dogra’s unbeaten 98 runs to register a two wicket win over Nagaland with 29 balls remaining. D Rohit and V Marimthu also contributed 32 runs and 20 runs respectively for Punducherry.
Abrar Kazi, Hoikato Zhimomi and Inakato Zhimomi claimed two wickets each for Nagaland. This is the third defeat in five games for Nagaland in Plate group D.
An update from the team manager A Rahman said two of the key bowlers from Nagaland, guest player Pawan Suyal and Tahmeed Rahman were unfit to play due to injury.
Up next, Nagaland team will take on Manipur on September 30.
