Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, on Friday, said that there are no laid down rules for success except hard work, planning and execution.
“Society demands much more from today’s youth than it was ten years back. Many thumb rules are seen governing our lives. But for success there’s no laid down rules except hard work, planning and execution,” the governor said in his address during the second convocation of St. Joseph University at Ikishe Model Village, Chümoukedima.
Ganesan exhorted the graduates that it is important to recognise not only their individual efforts in earning a degree but also the efforts of their family members who have supported them all along their academic journey.
He said the opportunity to pursue higher education rarely comes without a cost to the student’s family, whether that cost is financial, sacrifices of time, or the accumulation of responsibilities that allow the learner to focus on his or her studies.
The governor said the convocation is a day to look back on the many challenges the graduates have overcome and to look forward to the future, knowing that they have skills and knowledge needed to face the future.
“It is the moment of taking crucial life decisions,” he added.
Ganesan said there are enormous challenges and opportunities waiting for them in the outside world and that they would have to face those challenges and work with unwavering dedication to make their contribution for betterment of the society.
Speaking about the university, he said that in just few years’ time, the institute has becoming one of the well-known universities in the country and abroad.
The governor went on to state that the graduation certificate that they “hold today is the letter which has assigned to each one, the huge responsibility of applying their knowledge for the welfare of the society.”
“It is said that real education starts after you leave the university and face the real world on your own. Therefore, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and tackle the manifold problems plaguing our society which requires sincere efforts to resolve them,” Ganesan said.
Earlier, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocess and Pro-chancellor of St. Joseph University, delivered the key note address.
A total of 888 students from 20 different departments graduated out of which 418 attended the ceremony.
