Diphu, Dec. 30 (EMN): The three-day long Karbi traditional games called the “Hambi Kapathu” concluded at the Diphu Cultural Centre office at Lorulangso complex in Diphu on Dec. 30. The final match of the Hambi games was played between Den Arong KCS zone and Dongkamukam KCS zone.
In the first match, Dongkamukam KCS zone won the first match. Later on two matches were taken by Den Arong KCS zone to become the ‘5th Hambi Kapathu’ champion.
The winning team Den Arong KCS zone received a cash prize of INR 20,000 with a trophy. The second runner-up team received cash of INR 15,000 with a trophy. The third runner-up was Diphu-Manja KCS zone. The team received a cash prize of INR 10,000 with a trophy.
During the closing ceremony of the event, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang addressed the program. Ronghang said that the games should be played to promote. Out of 22 KCS zones, 12 participated but from the next year, it should be mandatory for all the 22 KCS zones to take part, Ronghang said.
For the development of the game, a permanent court will be constructed at the Diphu Cultural centre, Ronghang said. He appealed to the peoples to support the 44th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) too, which will be held during Feb. 15-19 make the festival successful.
The tournament was organized under the aegis of the Diphu Cultural Centre at Diphu (cultural affairs department), KAAC with support from the Karbi Anglong Traditional Sports Association of Diphu.
The ‘Hambi’ traditional games aim at ushering in a ‘spirit of happiness,’ keep Karbi traditions alive and create recreational activities.
