DIMAPUR — A project titled ‘Self-employed hair stylist training’ aimed to create rural entrepreneurs was inaugurated by Kovi Meyase, Secretary and ex-officio Director of Employment, Skill and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of Nagaland, at Pinnacle Skills training centre located at Sematilla, Dimapur, on Monday.
In his address, Meyase said that rural to urban migration is a growing trend and that young people in search of better opportunities in towns and cities end up in the unorganised sector with unattractive wages and uncertain future, Pinnacle Skills stated in an update.
He also said that such migration causes increased population pressure on urban areas.
The official said that the self-employed hair stylist project is a targeted intervention designed to create employment opportunities, mostly at the village level.
Stressing that self-employment is the way forward for providing sustainable livelihoods, Meyase encouraged the youth to leverage the opportunity and support the government is providing.
In his project overview report, chief executive of Pinnacle Skills, Dr. Yan Murry mentioned that the self-employed hair stylist training is a two-month residential training aimed to create barbers or hair stylists throughout the state.
After successful completion of the training, barber shops will be set up for the entrepreneurs and shop rent for six months will also be covered under the project. Besides the technical training, soft skills and financial literacy will also be offered to the trainees, Murry added.
Joint Director, Dept. of Employment, Skills and Entrepreneurship, Zubemo Tsanglao also attended the inaugural programme.
Earlier, Rev. Dr. Wati Longkumer offered the invocation prayer. Head of operations of Pinnacle Skills, Ajung Thonger chaired the programme while project manager of Pinnacle Skills, Tiamoa Tzudir proposed the vote of thanks.
