Hailstorm destroys crop at Yimsemyong

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, April 20 (EMN): Torrential rain accompanied by hailstorm on Saturday afternoon destroyed crops at Yimsemyong township in Mokokchung district. According to a report from the Yimsemyong Ad hoc Town Committee, a hailstorm hit the town at around 2.30 pm, which lasted for around 30 minutes, damaging several fields and farms. The report informed that around 70 families at Yimsemyong practice farming; and approximately 80 acres of cultivated land was affected by the hailstorm. The destroyed crops include maize, pole beans and others. Reports from various corners in district said that the pre-monsoon rain is occurring in almost all the areas, which besides disrupting normal life, has led to damages of crops. However, the official report of damage assessment could not be obtained from the DDMA, Mokokchung till the time this report was filed.
