Kohima, Dec. 13: Celebrating 51st glorious years in the service of the nation, Border Security Force (BSF), Chedema, joined the rest of the country by celebrating the 51st Raising Day with Governor PB Acharya as the chief guest on December 12.
Addressing security personnel, Acharya appreciated the sagacious valour, sacrifice and dedication of the BSF where they stood up to every challenge and emerged triumphant.
Terming Nagaland as a small state in the country, he has urged the security forces on the need for empowerment of youth through education and skill development. Stating that the youth are hungry for development, he urged them to extend whatever help and support they could to promote youth of the State.
Also stating that India is a democratic and secular country, Acharya maintained that everyone should respect the diversity of each state. As the security forces continue to render their services in the line of duty, he also urged them to maintain peace and tranquillity wherever they are posted.
A small documentary on Border Security Force was presented and a stage performance on the origin of 111 Bn & 112 Naga Bn was enacted by the security forces.
Cultural extravaganza was also presented by BSF troops and JNV school children.
In a handbook compiled by Commandant, SH Hemant Kumar, it was stated that during its golden journey, BSF had played a pivotal role and contributed immensely to all facets of national security right from the day of its raising.
BSF shouldered responsibilities such as election duties, aid to civil authorities during natural calamities, law and order duties with great aplomb.
The force has also played significant role in restoring peace and in smothering the menace of militancy in the state of Punjab, J&K and North Eastern States for which the Seeam Praharies earned gallantry medals for their acts of bravery.
