Dimapur, November 22 : The much anticipated visit of Governor PB Acharya to Orangkong village in Longleng district ended in disappointment among the villagers on Tuesday.
The village authority said the villagers, including school children who were supposed to be studying for their final exams, waited for an hour in queue bearing the winter chill to accord traditional welcome to the Governor. However, the villagers lamented that the Governor without informing them headed towards helipad even though his ‘warning vehicle’ arrived in the village for reasons not known to the village authority.
The village authority said it was informed by the district administration and NGOs about the proposed visit of the Governor to the village and advised it to prepare in a befitting manner for his visit. As such, it said, the villagers spent a week’s time in preparation for the proposed visit of the Governor.
The village authority is at a loss as to what made the Governor cancel his scheduled visit to the village to meet the villagers who are yet to see and meet them.
It said the Governor himself had chosen to visit Orangkong village during his tour to Longleng district.
