Dimapur, August 26 : A small group of Japanese university students interacted with the governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on August 26. Six students from the Waseda University of Tokyo in Japan, led by Dr. Takano Takako, a professor at the department of Centre for International Studies, are on a “cross-cultural study tour” to Nagaland. A note from the Raj Bhavan’s PRO on Friday stated that the governor had suggested to them to tie up “not only with NGOs” but “with our universities in Nagaland” too. The idea was that while individual organisations may have “wonderful interest and motive,” they might not reach the ordinary citizen. If activities are undertaken in collaboration with local universities “or with good colleges,” the impact of outreach on the youth would be more as much as it would be so on the education system of the region, the note stated of the interactions. The governor said that “the present system in the universities are (sic) not job oriented.” “The students, after their studies, do not connect either with society nor (sic) industry. So, there is a need to interact with the students and universities to share views and also that there should be a dialogue between trade, commerce, industry and education along with the resources available in the state to make the universities employable (universities),” the note said.
