Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): The Kohima district administration has informed residents not to dispose off garbage/waste materials at KMC collection points after 5 am in the morning and 4 pm in the evening.
According to a DIPR report on Friday, the deputy commissioner of Kohima delivered this instruction during a meeting with the Kohima Municipal Council on Friday. The meeting was held concerning waste management within the town/ward areas, it reported.
Those failing to follow the latest directive “would be firmly dealt with as per Municipal SWM rules,” the report warned. “The meeting also decided that KMC will not collect waste from any undesignated locations/collection points/nullahs/drainages.”
They also informed that it was illegal to burn any kind of waste material. Offenders are liable to pay a fine of INR 5000 to INR 25000 as per the Environment Act, it stated. As such, the deputy commissioner has instructed the citizens of Kohima not to burn any sort of waste/thrash but to hand over the segregated waste to the waste collectors authorised by the local bodies.
“It was also disclosed in the meeting that the district administration along with KMC is planning to install dedicated bins for plastic in some strategic locations and also to work out the modality of parking on hourly basis for all the vehicles within the KMC parking areas, which are in the pipeline,” read the report.
