DIPHU — The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA), and ASDC-Youth Front jointly organised a sit-in demonstration on Wednesday at the ASDC's Diphu office, demanding the withdrawal of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council's (KAAC) new land policy.
ASDC president Chandra Kanta Terang told the media that the new land policy would hurt the common people due to the increasing rate of land settlement premiums and land revenue from different categories of land in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.
The subjects of land settlement and land revenue have been inherent parts of the KAAC under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution since 1952, he said. He, however, regretted that no radical reform policy on the land settlement premium and rate of land revenue had been properly framed by the successive KAAC governments.
Terang also stated that a series of protests will be held in Phuloni, Dongkamukam, Bokajan, and Kaziranga in response to KAAC's new land policy, after which they will reach out to every village with the message.
He claimed that Karbi Anglong is underdeveloped as a result of improper land policy implementation and that the new land policy has been complicated by the fact that the rural economy in the district has been devastated as a result of the KAAC's incorrect economic and land policies.

Terang also emphasised demand points such as withdrawing the interim notification of KAAC's new land policy; halting the increase of land settlement premiums and rates; halting the implementation of 'Mission Basudhara-2.0' in Assam's sixth scheduled autonomous district areas; and halting the issue of land patta to non-tribal communities.
He mentioned that they had submitted a memorandum to KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang regarding the issue.
