Dimapur, July 27 (EMN): Greening Asetkong, a five year project towards a greener society and also about preserving the biodiversity launched by Dr. Imtiwapang, Speaker NLA with support from Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (AKTM) completed its one year anniversary on July 26.
The aim of the project is to enhance Asetkong range toward a wider green cover and beautifying the landscape and make the range into a pollution free zone and natural carbon free zone. The project was launched in July 26, 2016 by planting 2000 sapling in the first phase.
To realize the dream, AKTM will grow various kinds of trees, including fruit bearing trees, superior ornamental trees and evergreen trees along the Asetkong-Tsusangra Road (AT-Road) and village approach roads.
To mark its 1st Anniversary, the AKTM with the theme, “A tree for peace,” planted 500 saplings of Pine and Silver Oak covering a stretch of more than 30 Km along the AT-Road. The volunteers also replace the saplings which did not survive and erected bamboo barricades around the planted trees.
During a brief programme at Kobulong, the AKTM president, AlapongJamir urged the students to not only plant trees and mark the occasion but to nurture it with care as their personal responsibility.
He further added that a tree for peace is a lifelong journey and it must be taken one step at a time.
