Dimapur Sep 7 (EMN): Under the ‘green village initiative through energy efficient retrofits’ being organised by State Designated Agency (NSDA) under Electrical Inspectorate, conducted a seminar on energy conservation and power saving at Lotha Baptist Ekhümkho Sanrhyütsü (LBES) Mission Centre, Vankhosüng on September 7.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Electrical Inspector, Er. IV Chishi, said energy is now decreasing to the point that time may come when mankind may see non-availability of energy as a reality because the sources of the non renewable energy like water, river, fuel, wood or charcoal that we have been dependent on traditionally are now being used to the maximum.
To avoid shortage and crisis of energy for future generation, conservation of both renewable and non renewable sources of energy is the urgent need of the day, he said. He added that one should use power sensibly and not abuse it because it may contribute in creating crisis. He also said CFL bulbs which is likely to be phased out or replaced by LED bulbs in future should be buried once it is damaged instead discarding it in the open air as it poses health hazard by emitting mercury.
Executive Secretary LBES, the Rev. Nyanchumo Ezung expressed gratitude and thanked the Electrical Inspectorate for his concern including the LBES Mission Centre under the department’s programme.
Deputy Secretary of Education Renbonthung Jami highlighted about the villages and areas under Wokha district that the department has reached with its programme.
Practical demonstration on comparative consumption of power by incandescent bulbs and LED bulbs was also conducted.
