Green pledge: Manipur beat Nagaland in friendly match

Kohima, June 4 (EMN): Manipur beat Nagaland 3-2 in the friendly football exhibition match played to create environmental consciousness among citizens, on the eve of World Environment Day at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Saturday.

The friendly match was the first of its kind with Kangleipak Pari XI (Manipur) featuring Indian Super League players. As for Kohima Town Club XI (representing Nagaland), the players were selected from various local clubs.

Organised by the KTC in collaboration with Kohima Forest Division, the match was a tool to create awareness about climate crisis and global warming around the world. Tree saplings were also distributed to spectators.

Nyithong Magh of Kohima Town Club XI scored the opening goal. But the equaliser goal came from Kangleipak Pari XI team captain, Samboi of East Bengal FC, who later scored another goal, sealing victory for the team. In between, Bipin of Mumbai FC, scored a goal for Kangleipak Pari. Meanwhile, Ringham Jigdung scored the second goal for KTC few minutes after he entered into the game.

Earlier, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, said that players are expected to maintain discipline, dedication and devotion to go the next level. Sports is one discipline where one can earn maximum, and challenged them to have determination.

Divisional Forest Officer, Kohima, Rajkumar M, said that it is no more a secret that global warming is happening and called all to join hands to give better future.
