The grand finale of the Hornbill Festival 2014 came to a close with the Chief Minister TR Zeliang, also the host of the festival, formally declaring the closing of the ‘Festival of Festivals’ at the Naga Heritage village Kisama today.
As the curtains closed down for the Hornbill festival, Chief Minister of Nagaland and Miss Nagaland 2014 lit the bon-fire which was followed by the Unity Dance by all 17 cultural troupes. Dignitaries and tourists also joined in the Unity Dance with excitement and merriment. The Department of Tourism presented citation and cakes to all the cultural troupes who participated during the ten-day festival.Different cultural troupes representing the various tribes of Nagaland participated in the cultural programme with their dances and songs.
The cultural troupes were - Changun Cultural Society Tuensang (Chang) - folk dance; Mbaupungwa village cultural troupe (Zeliang) - indigenous game; Dzulhami village cultural troupe (Chakhesang) - Tükhrü-Thurro Lizzo; Dimasa cultural troupe Dimapur (Kachari) - Ajang Jang Ang (folk dance); Longsoh Watzn cultural troupe (Konyak) - Yanpu Hangpu (Aoleang Dance); Phelungre Women Society, Kiphire Town (Sangtam) - Feast of celebration; Chekiye women cultural group Dimapur (Sumi) - Lejo Le (folk song) and Phiro Cultural Club, Wokha Town (Lotha) - Evona Worana (folk dance).
Earlier, the cultural troupes who participated in the morning session included Meluri Cultural Troupe (Pochury) - Oh-Hia (Folk Dance); Saramati Rekhiangpong Dancing Club Salomi village (Yimchunger) - (Folk Song); Terogvunyu Youth Dengrne cultural troupe (Rengma) - folk dance; Kuki cultural troupe Inbung (Kuki) - folk song; Aosungkum Cultural Club Mokokchung (Ao) - Dh Nukshi (folk dance); Khiamniungan Cultural Club Tuensang (Khiamniungan) - Tsem Shiu; Bbunmnyu cultural troupe (Phom) - Demonstration of log drum pulling; Garo Historical & Cultural Society Dimapur (Garo) - Wangala dance and Tuophema village cultural troupe (Angami) - Method of traditional harvesting.
Dignitaries who attended the cultural programme in the afternoon session were Parliamentary Secretary for RD CL John and his lady wife; Parliamentary Secretary for Art & Culture Er. Kropol Vitsu; Parliamentary Secretary for Labour & Employment S. Chuba and Commissioner & Secretary for Tourism, Art & Culture Himato Zhimomi.
