Govt. to requisition hostels of private schools, colleges for quarantine centres

Dimapur, May 11 (EMN): With more people opting to return home from different parts of the country, in view of Covid-19 pandemic, the Nagaland government has requested private schools and colleges authorities to provide their hostels to be used as quarantine centres.

According to DIPR report, in a meeting on Monday, the in-charge of Dimapur district for all Covid-19 related activities, Y Kikheto Sema, said that with more people registering to return home, the number of returnees is coming up to more than 8000 people for Dimapur alone.

Stating that the government facilities will not be able to accommodate all, he appealed to private schools and colleges to come into the rescue by providing their hostels to be used as quarantine centres, assuring that all necessary requirements will be looked after by the government.

The meeting attended by the convenor of core committee for Covid-19, Honje Konyak, All Nagaland Private Schools' Association, All Nagaland Private Colleges' Association and district education officer was convened at the Commissioner's rest house, to discuss the various issues relating to people returning home.

Briefing on the arrangements that are being made, Sema informed that proper medical screening will be done upon their arrival and suspected Covid-19 positive people will be kept at the isolation wards.

Calling on for collective effort in fight against Covid-19, he said that quarantine facilities for around 1500-2000 people at the hostels of private colleges and 3500-4000 people at private schools are expected wherein the associations gave feedback on a positive note.

Schools and colleges who are not in the association will also be approached by the core committee, it was decided, it informed.

Presidents of both private schools and colleges were nominated as member of core committee while one member each from both the association were nominated as accommodation committee members during the meeting.
