KOHIMA, DECEMBER 14
The Nagaland Government Registered Class-I Contractors’ Union (NGRC-I CU) has expressed “strong resentment against the step-motherly attitude” of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, towards the Nagaland state contractors in regard to the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for the construction work for four-lane Dimapur to Kohima road.
In a release today, the organization president Seyiekuolie and vice president S Bendang Jamir stated that the central Minister had, on many occasions, assured to relax the norms for North-East contractors. They also pointed out that even on the day of foundation stone laying programme at Dimapur, the Minister had assured to accommodate local contractors by splitting projects into smaller packages.
“It may also be recalled that we had earlier submitted a representation to the Prime Minister through the Prime Minister office (PMO) and even to Minister in-charge of Road Transport and Highways & Shipping dated 03.09.2015 with a request to take up the projects in several separate packages in National Highways development and even in other infra-structural development works,” the release stated. For this, the contractors said they had received official acknowledgement letter and positive response, however, they were greatly disappointed to learn that the assurances and promises were not honoured.
“Therefore, we, on behalf of all the contractors of Nagaland, appeal to the Minister in-charge of Road Transport and Highways & Shipping, Government of India, to reconsider the matter and postpone the NIT date and thereby review and relax the terms and conditions, so that the state Local contractors can be accommodated as assured,” the release further stated.
