As an immediate relief to the affected fire victims of Mao Market and NN Market, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, has donated INR 20 lakh, while the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has donated INR 30 lakh.
It may be mentioned here that Mao Market and NN Market were completely razed to ashes on February 27. A DIPR report stated that a total of 55 persons from 20 families from Upper Chandmari, Porterlane, and Dzüvüru colony were affected by the fire.
It stated that relief funds were handed over to the victims as per the number of members of the household. In commercial areas, a total of 92 shops/ vendors at Mao Market and 61 at NN Market were affected and a relief fund was handed to the vendors/ shop owners who were affected in the fire incident.
The relief fund was distributed under the damaged assessment committee headed by ADC of Kohima, Rhosietho Ngouri, as chairman, along with the SDO (C) Sadar, assistant manager of NSDMA, SDPO of South Police Station Kohima, OC of Fire and Emergency Services of South Station Kohima, chairman of T Khel, and chairman of Mao Market Committee as members.
The Kohima unit of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) distributed blankets, kitchen sets and sanitation kits to the families of Mao Market fire victims on February 28.
An update from the IRCS Kohima district unit informed that the office bearers and managing committee members visited the fire incident site at Mao Market in Kohima and its surrounding areas and met the affected families.
It may be mentioned that a devastating fire broke out at Mao Market in Kohima which subsequently reduced the building into ashes on February 27.
Meanwhile, IRCS Kohima district unit has thanked all the fire fighters including civilian volunteers with special mention of Col. Umesh Chandra Sati, commandant of 1st Assam Rifles, who joined the team of the fire fighters of the Nagaland state Fire and Emergency Services, along with his jawans and remained upto midnight till the fire was brought under control.
The Tsütuonuomia Khel Council (T Khel) has expressed gratitude to the Fire and Emergency Services, district administration, 1st Assam Rifles, Nagaland Police, NSDMA, Power department, AYO, KVYO for their services to control the devastating fire which broke on February 27 at Mao Market and NN Market complex.
The T Khel Council has particularly thanked the prayer groups both individual and churches, which stood fast in prayer at that very moment of havoc. It prayed that the Almighty give comforts and strength to all the affected victims during this moment of distress.
The T Khel council has also appreciated the good gesture and concern shown by the Nagaland chief minister, who personally came to the spot to take stock of the losses and immediate remedial measures and financial support with commitment to extend all possible help.
Meanwhile, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has appealed to all its trading community for their prompt contribution in aid of the affected members due to the inferno that broke out at Moa Market, NN Market, T Khel Market and Jail Colony, Kohima.
