Kohima, Sep. 25 (EMN): The proposed meeting between the Nagaland government and the All Nagaland Ad-hoc Teachers Group (ANATG) to be held on Sep. 25 has been rescheduled to be conducted on the 26th, at 3 pm in the Secretariat.
The meeting was convened by the government in the backdrop of 1,166 grade-III teachers—who were appointed on contract to sanctioned posts during 2007-2012—demanding regularisation of their service. The teachers had previously undergone a suitability test conducted by the government and qualified, while other necessary verifications and clearances from the departments of School Education and the P&AR were also reported to have been completed.
The teachers had earlier this year resorted to a hunger strike, demanding that the government take up their case. However there has not been much development besides meetings and vague verbal assurances, a teacher informed Eastern Mirror.
On Sep. 21, the group was denied permission by the administration to stage a peaceful protest in the Civil Secretariat area. They converged and near the Secretariat and decided to resume their 'hunger strike.' Following a prolonged silent confrontation between the police and the teachers, which brought traffic in the area to a standstill for hours, and subsequent intervention of two apex student bodies and school teachers' association, the government wrote to the ANATG convening a meeting.
On Wednesday, the ANATG is expected to meet School Education’s advisor; and the principal secretary and director along with legal advisors from both parties.
