The Governor's Taekwondo Cup 2026 kicked off at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal.

IMPHAL — The Governor’s Taekwondo Cup, Manipur 2026, organised by the All-Manipur Taekwondo Association, commenced at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal on Saturday.
The opening ceremony of the 19th edition of the event was attended by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Minister (Youth Affairs & Sports, and Home) Govindas Konthoujam, and MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh and Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao).
Addressing the gathering, CM Singh mentioned that the association's efforts have produced more than 40 international players from Manipur.
Singh, who was conferred the 5th Dan in Traditional Taekwondo by the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea, noted that the sport instils discipline, respect, and self-confidence. He encouraged students to balance education and sports to become responsible citizens.

The championship, which runs until July 15, features 1,141 players from 29 units, including 691 men and 450 women. The tournament was first established in 1980 when Singh served as the President of the All-Manipur Taekwondo Association.
Govindas Konthoujam stated that the state government has provided electronic scoring equipment and body protectors worth approximately INR 24 lakh to upgrade the taekwondo infrastructure in Manipur.
The event was also attended by Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports N Praveen Singh and officials of the association.
