Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): Nagaland’s Governor PB Acharya is said to have had discussions with leaders of communities in Mokokchung concerning various issues including a case about opening a centre for unemployed educated youth. Besides they are said to have discussed renewing collective efforts to engage developmental matters with special focus on education and training of young people for entrepreneurship. Another issue was on the question of working toward a solution to the protracted Naga political problem, updates from the DIPR informed.
Acharya met with leaders of frontal organisations of Mokokchung town during his arrival in the town on May 2 to attend the Moatsu festival at Chungtia village.
During his meeting with leaders of the Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, and Ao Students’ Conference, Acharya gave his views about an ‘early’ solution to the protracted Naga political issue and hoped that it would ‘happen soon.’ The community’s organisations likewise gave their views about a ‘respectable’ agreement.
Further, Acharya met with members of the Mokokchung Chambers of Commerce and heard their problems including issues of transportation ‘due to poor roads.’ He is said to have insisted on ‘training of young people’ for entrepreneurship to be placed as one of their agendas.
During his interaction with the various leaders, Acharya mentioned twice that religion ought to be in the persoinal domain: “You are proud to be a Christian, I am proud to be a Hindu. Religion should be made personal to make a man better.” He conveyed that religion must remain in the private domain.
The DIPR update stated that Acharya had meeting with members of the Mokokchung Press Club as well. He appreciated the Ao vernacular newspapers namely the Ao Milen and the Tir Yim Yim for their role in disseminating information to the rural people.
Later, Acharya met with the heads of offices at the establishment of addictional deputy commissioner (planning) and inquired about the implementation of welfare programmes both central as well as state schemes. He enquired about the work particularly of the flagship programmes that are meant for the uplift of the poor sections of the community.
The governor also called upon the education departments to exert greater efforts to improve their performance saying that students belonging to the poor sections of the district are in the government schools as they cannot afford private schools.
