Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): Nagaland Governor PB Acharya today underscored the importance of education in the society and urged the Naga scholars not to be ‘self-centred but give back to the society’ while speaking with scholars of Nagaland University at Merima campus on July 4 2018 at Kohima.
A press release received here from the Raj Bhavan issued by the “PRO to Governor” asserted that educational institutions as the backbone of the society and added that the basic foundation of a developed society was education, and therefore added that educational institutions as the backbone of the society.
In this regard, the governor opined on the importance of empowering the young mind with knowledge. However, Acharya stated that the scholars should not be self centred but should give back to the society once they achieve their educational goals.
The governor further encouraged ‘the Universities’ to inculcate their students the thought that the ‘ultimate goal of education should be to strengthen and develop the society’.
While harping on the importance of introducing skill development courses in the University curriculum, Archarya pointed out that jobs in the Government sector has reached a saturation point. He therefore encouraged the Naga youths to take up entrepreneurship.
“Let us make our academics empower the students and make them employable” he stated. The Governor pointed out that University Grants Commission (UGC)’s scheme titled “Introduction of Career Oriented Courses in Universities and Colleges” aims at introducing career and market oriented, skill enhancing add-on courses at undergraduate level which will prove beneficial for jobs, self-employment and empowerment of the students.
The governor asserted that for the progress of Nagaland, the citizens needs to be strengthened and ever one play their role towards the development of the State.
In this regard, the governor mentioned about the different central and state government schemes and welfare programmes. However, he hinted that those schemes were not reaching the targeted group; and therefore urged the university and the student community to visit villages at regular intervals and to identify the beneficiaries for central and state flagship programmes.
