DIMAPUR — Nagaland
Governor, La. Ganesan, has encouraged the young NCC cadets to embody
discipline, leadership and commitment towards national service, which he said
was crucial for future peace, prosperity and mutual respect.
He stated this during the inaugural programme of the Special
National Integration Camp (SNIC) of NCC cadets which got underway at 24 Assam
Rifles Camp in Wokha on Thursday. The camp is being conducted by 1 Nagaland NCC
Battalion under the Kohima NCC Group HQs under overall directions of NCC
Directorate of North East Region (NER).
A defence release stated that the camp aims to bring
together the NCC cadets from all over the country by providing a platform for
meaningful interaction and national integration.
The governor welcomed 560 cadets and staff from 17 NCC
directorates across India. Stressing on the essence of the camp in defining
‘unity in diversity,’ he underscored the importance of unity despite
differences in language, culture and traditions.
He encouraged the young cadets to embody discipline, leadership
and commitment towards national service, which according to him was crucial for
future peace, prosperity and mutual respect. He also encouraged the cadets to
engage with peers from the northeast, experience local customs, cuisine and
culture, build understanding and tolerance, which he said were the key values
for an inclusive society.
The governor described the camp as a transformative platform
for interaction, allowing cadets to forge lifelong bonds and appreciated the
country's diverse cultural expressions. He lauded the organisers, NCC staff and
cadets for fostering integration and cultural empathy through the camp.
He further expressed optimism for a positive impact of the
cadets on the nation's unity and thanked them for their dedication and wished
them successful and enriching camp experiences.
Besides the advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, and
MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, the president of Lotha Eloe Hoho, Thungbeni Ngullie;
chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung; MLA Achumbemo Kikon; president of Lotha
Students’ Union, Lironthung E Kithan; and chairman of Wokha District Council
Chairmen Association, Vandan Erui, present at the event.
The deputy commissioner (DC) of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, and
superintendent of police, Wokha, Rhovysie Nyui, were the special invitees.
Brig. Antony Grossy, deputy director general of NER NCC
directorate, received the governor at the Wokha camp site, along with Brig. SP
Mainkar, Group Commander of Kohima Group NCC, and Brig. Shiva Kant Shukla,
commander of 6 Sector Assam Rifles.
NCC cadets presented guard of honour to the governor.
Commemorating the event, the governor also presented a
silver salver for the conducting unit.
The event concluded with a rendition of NCC song by NCC
Cadets of Nagaland followed by the singing of national anthem.
