Urges the people to participate in yoga

Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): Expounding that every human being empowered by education has a great responsibility towards the society, state governor PB Acharya has encouraged the members of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to work on modalities towards strengthening the society in various field including education and health sector.
Acharya stated this while interacting with members of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland state branch (IRCSN) on June 20 at the Red Cross Building, Kohima. Terming the Red Cross Society as a great humanitarian movement, Acharya expressed pride of the IRCSB for continuously working towards the motto of the Red Cross Society.
He also called upon the members to be sincere towards the job and encouraged them to work on modalities towards strengthening the society in various field including education and health sector.
“Unless the poorest of the poor is strengthened, the society will not move forward,” a PRO press release stated quoting the governor. Acharya also advised the members to conduct medical camps in the interior parts of the state for the benefit of the people.
Acharya stated that the President of India has urged the governors to convene meetings with various NGOs including the Red Cross Society from time to time and to inspire them towards social responsibilities. He called upon the IRCSN to review and find new methods to reach to the people for development. He urged the members to utilise the dormant or hidden energy of IRCSN in reaching out to the people especially those living in the remote areas.
Urging the IRCSN not to depend on the government for revenue, he called upon the members to increase the membership and let out the property to increase their revenue. “We have to see that the revenue increases to carry out the works but should not depend on the government always,” he insisted.
To strengthen the health delivery system, the governor suggested IRCSN to sponsor students from government schools in nursing or medical courses with the condition that once they complete their studies, they should come back to the state and work for the people. “Care and share should be agenda for IRCSN, the governor added.
Meanwhile, to promote healthy mind and body, Acharya has appealed to all the people of Nagaland to participate in the movement initiated by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi.
In his message to the people of Nagaland on the eve of International Yoga Day, Acharya stated that yoga is one of the most invaluable gifts of the ancient Indian tradition which originated in India since time immemorial and has been universally accepted as one of the most ideal practices of mankind.
“Yoga embodies unity of mind and body and promotes harmony amongst the people and nature and encourages more holistic approach towards good health and happiness,” a PRO press release said quoting the governor.
Acharya further stated that yoga provides physical and mental well being of the people, adding that yoga is a preventive and creative science.
Acharya has also congratulated Awan Konyak on being appointed as chairperson of Nagaland state commission for protection of child rights (NSCPCR).
In his message to the chairperson, Acharya stated that children have the right to survive, to be safe, to belong, to be heard, to receive adequate care and to grow up in a protective environment adding ‘we should make sure that schools and communities protect all children and prevent child maltreatment.
He stated that schools and communities can protect girls and boys from violations such as abuse, sexual exploitation, trafficking and work in hazardous conditions, as well as harmful practices, including child marriage.
Referring to data which showed rampant growth in child abuse and child rights violation cases in Northeast India, he has suggested child trafficking for labour and sexual exploitation and distressed migration of young boys and girls as prioritised issues for potential intervention.
He also urged Awan to participate and promote the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) yojana (save daughter, educate daughter) project which aims to save and empower the girl child.
Stating that the strength of the chain lies in the weakest link, he said in the education field, government schools are the weakest link. He has urged to ensure that the students get all facilities especially mid-day meal, free books, uniform etc.
Acharya hoped that NSCPCR would make all out efforts to protect the rights of children in the state under the leadership of Awan Konyak.
