
DIMAPUR — Elaborating on the crucial role played by women in the society, Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, has termed them as the backbone of the family and society.
The governor stated this during the ‘Shakti Roopa Mahila Sammelan’ programme on Saturday at the Bharat Seva Ashram Sangh, Dimapur. The Shakti Roopa was organised by Mahila Sammelan, stated a DIPR report.
Report stated that Bharat Roopa is a collection of all the women organisations from rural areas with 50 to 60 members. The Mahila Sammelan aims to bring all the house ladies to come together.
Speaking on the occasion, La. Ganesan, appreciated the role played women in all aspects and termed them as the backbone of the society. He added that their involvement in the society ensures stability, progress and development of a nation.
“While we acknowledge the accomplishments and contribution of women in shaping modern India, we also recognise the challenges that confronts them, but despite the challenges, the inherent strength and resilience that embodies women as mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, professionals and achievers makes them a vital catalyst in the development of nation building,” the governor said.
Noting the menace of addiction and substance abuse as one of the pressing concerns afflicting the society, he reminded that Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was a collective vision to eradicate the social ill through community engagement towards realising the goal of a sustainable society- that is free from substance abuse.
“Let us all be partakers of this mission and make concerted efforts to assist and provide support to those struggling with addiction,” the governor implored.
He further commended the efforts of Shakti Roopa, a team of committed women social workers for their dedicated humanitarian service, and encouraged them to continue in their endeavours to generate positive change in the society.
Report stated that five social workers namely Tajungsangla, Anita Roy, Sumitra Biswas, Pora Tanti and Sharmila MoMin were honoured on the occasion.
