Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland is convinced by the ‘talent’ of the Naga people in handicraft and handloom for which he has suggested more efforts to promoting them. During a visit to a handloom exhibition in Kohima town, Governor PB Acharya remarked that the government should encourage craftsmen and entrepreneurs’ events across the state.
The governor of Nagaland was expressing delight during a visit to the National Handloom Expo being held at the Gurkha Panchayat Public Ground at Chandmari in the capital town on March 23.
According to a press release from Raj Bhavan on Thursday, Acharya suggested that the government should encourage craftsmen and entrepreneurs by organising such showcase events from time to time across the state of Nagaland. An exhibition of such kind should be held at least once a year in the metropolitan cities of the county, he said. The reason he implied was that it will ‘boost and encourage’ the ‘talents of the local people.’
The governor had a word of advice for entrepreneurs. He has asked them to ‘take their profession seriously.’ Entrepreneurs can avail the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, which focuses mainly on small and micro level businesses. Also, interest rates for loans are affordable and low when compared to other banks’ interest rates, the press release stated.
The wife of the governor, Kavita Acharya, also commented that the handlooms and crafts showcased at the pavilion were ‘priceless.’ She appreciated the participants for their commendable work.
Further, the governor appealed to the people to visit the ongoing exhibition and to encourage the artisans who are showcasing their products. Acharya has thanked the Minister of Textiles, Government of India, Smriti Irani for her initiative in sponsoring the exhibition.
The 15-day exhibition is being organised by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Cooperation Ltd and sponsored by the development commissioner for Handlooms of the Ministry of Textiles, the press release added.
