A Nagamese movie titled “Maiki Manu Dukh Laga Kahani” (Part-II) was released today by the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
The movie was directed by Esther Bano, an upcoming film producer, director and actor in Nagamese films. The director, to her credit, had already released three other movies in the past. The first edition of the movie “Maiki Manu Dukh Laga Kahani” was released in 2011, while and English movie “Save our Culture” and Nagamese movie “Zeevan” were released in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Bano is also the first Naga lady in the field of film production.
In his address, Acharya, who also presently serves as the Governor of Assam, lauded the director and his entire crew members for producing the movie. The Governor, while mentioning that men and women are equal, said the movie which speaks about women’s rights, will be able to spread a strong message to the Naga society to treat women as equals.“We are all equal in the eyes of God. We are equal in His sight,” Acahrya said while calling upon the Nagas to create a vibrant society.
The Governor called for equal respect to Naga women, while he urged the Naga brothers to wake up and make the best of women’s contribution by including them in every spheres of life. “There is no feet left where women are restricted to go,” he added.
The newly released movie is a story of a young rape victim who grew up to fight against social injustice towards women. The victimized woman was orphaned with the death of her mother who succumbed to social sarcasm and embarrassment following the rape incident.
Subsequently adopted by a neighbor family friend, the character grows up into adulthood with a strong determination to fight against social injustice towards women.
Educated with the support of her adoptive parents, she grew up to become a successful police officer. Through her line of duty, she renders her best efforts to protect the rights of women by addressing their needs through fair means, while she also protects the women in distress and delivers justice in fairness and renders supporting role to those women seeking justice.
Earlier, the programme commenced with invocation pronounced by Noklem Konyak, while Nikolo Tsuzu briefed about the film and the director Esther Bano delivered the words of gratitude. The one-hour movie was screened for all attendance to watch, which was also joined by the Governor and his lady Kavita Acharya.
