Nand Kishore Yadav reviewed research and farmer outreach initiatives at ICAR Nagaland Centre in Medziphema

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Friday visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, and reviewed its ongoing research, technology dissemination programmes, and contributions to agricultural development in the state.
According to a DIPR report, the governor was given a detailed presentation on the centre’s achievements in crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Scientists briefed the governor on various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach initiatives, and capacity-building programmes being implemented across Nagaland.

The presentation highlighted key achievements, including the development of drought-tolerant rice genotypes, promotion of high-yielding crop varieties, integrated farming system models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting structures, improved technologies for Naga King chilli cultivation, horticultural value addition, and innovations in pig and poultry production.
The scientists also showcased the centre’s pioneering work in artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources, and dissemination of improved germplasm to farmers across the North Eastern Region.
During the visit, Yadav toured experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities, and processing units.
He interacted with scientists and staff, appreciating their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farmers through location-specific technologies and extension services.
Commending the centre for its contribution to enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and improving farmers’ livelihoods, the governor emphasised the need to translate scientific research into practical solutions that directly benefit farming communities and strengthen the state's agricultural growth and food security.
The visit concluded with an interaction between the governor and officials of the centre on future opportunities to strengthen agricultural innovation and farmer welfare in Nagaland.
