Dimapur, November 25 : Governor PB Acharya on Friday has appreciated the mothers’ organisation in the State for raising a logical and honourable voice for equity in justice by demanding and appreciating the government’s decision to provide them 33% reservation in the local self-government institutions.
Acharya said women’s participation in politics has all good reasons to address the big problem of corruption that has troubling the political field. “We require separate police stations, bank branches and many other public oriented institutions wherein only ladies handle the situation. This is the need of the hour,” he stated.
The Governor also congratulated the State Government its strong determination to do justice as per the amended constitutional provision to empower the women in the political decision-making body to strengthen the democracy. “Democracy assures equal rights to all the people regardless of sex, creed, caste and financial status,” he pointed out.
He further congratulated the mothers’ organisation for raising their voice against Naga men for their “double speak” on women reservation. They have reiterated that “they have only been contradicting the Naga customary law of gender equity and mutilating the age-old custom of equality of sexes”, the Governor said.
Acharya noted that in Nagaland, women are not lagging behind in any field of economic and social activities while on the other hand we are proud that our sisters and mothers are in the forefront in many fields like performing cultural and social activities, education, business etc.,.
On the demonetisation issue, the Governor appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that things will be normalised shortly, he said.
“It is our duty to uphold and strengthen all the steps to eradicate corruption and nip it in the bud of all nefarious activities of accumulating wealth and public money for the welfare of the common people,” the Governor stated.
