DIMAPUR — Nagaland
Governor, La. Ganesan, has lauded the public of Tuensang district for the
progress made in the field of education in recent years and expressed
confidence that the economic disparity would also be addressed with the efforts
of the central and state government.
He stated that the literacy rate of the district, which was
only 52.15% in 2001, made a huge leap to reach the figure of 73.70% in 2011.
The governor disclosed this during a meeting with the head
of departments and members of civil society organisations held at the
conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Tuensang town during his
visit to the district on Tuesday.
He expressed his delight to come to the historical district
known as ‘Land of Culture,’ saying that it has been his desire to visit and
interact with the people of Tuensang. He was pleased to meet the brave and
progressive people of Tuensang, who have endured hardship and are trying to
keep pace with social-economic development happened within a short span of
time, a DIPR report stated.
Addressing the gathering, the governor urged the Agri. and
Allied departments to ensure that farmer-based schemes like PM Kisan scheme,
soil health card scheme and Kisan credit card are made accessible to the
farmers.
Speaking on the health Sector, he stressed on the importance
of healthcare in the district and encouraged the department to implement health
schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana and Chief Minister
Health Insurance Scheme. He also mentioned the importance of Pradhan Mantri TB
Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025.
Ganesan also urged the Public Health Engineering Department
(PHED) to ensure Jal Jeevan Mission scheme benefiting every citizen in the
district. He also added that banking is another basic service that cannot be
ignored where every eligible citizen should have Jan Dhan account, especially
women in order to avail all the banking facilities.
He called upon the people of Tuensang to actively support
the rising issues of drug menace, which pose a threat to the younger
generations.
Departmental activities were presented by PHED, DRDA, CMO
and DAO during the meeting.
The welcome address was delivered by the DC of Tuensang,
Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, and a short speech was delivered by MLA and chairman
of Tuensang DPDB, Lima Onen Chang.
Later, the governor held a security coordination meeting
with the security personnel.
