Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): The Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya interacted with Naga students from Myanmar on June 21, at Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
The students, recipients of the SSWBT/Tata Trusts Scholarship, 2017 were invited by Governor Acharya for interaction.
The Governor called on the students to be the game changers of their society and encouraged them to study and work hard and to be torch bearers of their community.
‘Your empowerment of education should be for the development of your areas and you should give back to the society’ he stated. The Governor also highlighted various scholarships that colleges and universities were offering to students through Indian National Fellowship Centre, Mumbai. He advised the students to avail such opportunities and gain out of it.
He also informed the students that talks were held with the Central Government to open educational institutes in border areas so that students need not travel to far away towns and cities for education. He said some universities are keen to enter into Public Private Partnership (PPP) for opening institutions in the border areas which will be beneficial for them.
Acharya also expressed his concern for the Naga brothers and sisters from across the border for their social upliftment and empowerment. Focusing on social issues, the Governor felt the need to empower the students through education. He also appealed the citizens to be local guardians of students who don’t have family or relatives in the towns they study. “One should invite these students, interact with them and make them feel at home. This will strengthen the Naga bonding” the Governor opined.
The students from Myanmar, who were in Raj Bhavan for the first time, thanked the Governor for his invitation, kind gesture and hospitality accorded to them. They also thanked the Governor for hosting the SSWBT/Tata Trusts Scholarship programme at Raj Bhavan, Kohima. The Governor presented a Naga muffler each to the students.
