KOHIMA — Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, was on Saturday inducted as the Chief Patron of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG).
The ceremony was held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima.
Addressing the event, the governor said it was a matter of immense pleasure and a deep sense of honour to be present on the occasion of his induction.
Yadav extended warm greetings and expressed sincere appreciation for the commendable work carried out by the organisation.
“I accept this role with humility and a strong sense of responsibility. Being associated with a movement that has, for decades, shaped the character, discipline and leadership qualities of young people is indeed a privilege,” he said, adding that the position is not merely ceremonial but a commitment to support and nurture the growth of youth.

He described the Bharat Scouts and Guides as a voluntary, non-political and educational movement for young people, open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed.
Rooted in the vision of Lord Baden Powell, who founded the scouting movement in 1907, he said it continues to inspire generations across the world.
The governor noted that the NSBSG, established in 1967, has grown steadily over the years and expanded across districts, reaching young people in different parts of the state and positively influencing their lives.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, where young minds are exposed to numerous challenges and distractions, the role of organisations like the Scouts and Guides becomes even more vital. It teaches us to work together, to lead with integrity, and to care for the environment,” he said.
Encouraging the young Scouts and Guides, he urged them to uphold the Scout ‘promise and law’ not only during activities but in their everyday lives, and to reflect values of honesty, kindness and courage through their actions.
As chief patron, Yadav assured his full support in strengthening and expanding the movement in Nagaland. He also encouraged educational institutions and stakeholders to actively participate in its growth so that more young people can benefit from the values and experiences of scouting and guiding.
He further congratulated the NSBSG for their continued dedication and expressed confidence that the movement would reach greater heights in the years to come, while calling for collective efforts in the spirit of unity, service and nation-building.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), S Keoshu Yimchunger, in his keynote address, said the occasion marks a significant milestone in the journey of the NSBSG.
He said the induction of the governor as chief patron would strengthen the institution and inspire every Scout and Guide to uphold the highest ideals of service, discipline and leadership.
“The Bharat Scouts and Guides movement has always stood as a beacon of character building and nation building, rooted in the timeless principles of duty to God, duty to country and duty to others,” he said, adding that in Nagaland, with its vibrant culture and strong community spirit, scouting and guiding continue to nurture unity, resilience and a spirit of service among the youth.
Highlighting its global presence, he said scouting is spread across 216 countries with over 56 million members worldwide, and remains a voluntary and non-political educational movement open to all.
He added that since its inception, scouting has focused on the holistic development of young individuals—building character, fostering leadership and encouraging a lifelong commitment to service through its method of learning by doing.
Furthermore, the advisor called upon the BSG family to reaffirm their collective dedication to building a brighter society, one that is inclusive, responsible and forward-looking.
