Dimapur, Jan. 22 (EMN): Nagaland governor PB Acharya has directed the department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to identify ‘requirements’ in order impart ‘knowledge on skill labour’ in the state and train youths accordingly. That way, he said, the youths may be ‘employable’ within the state itself. He said this during a meeting with the department’s officers at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Jan. 22.
Expressing his concern for the youth of the state, the governor said that unemployment was one major problem faced by the state. He, therefore, called on the department to focus on training the youth for the development of the state and also to make employment possible.
The governor also suggested the department to co-ordinate with universities and colleges in Nagaland to introduce skill development courses in the VI semester which would prove beneficial for jobs, self-employment and empowerment of the students.
Employment, skill development and entrepreneurship officials also briefed the governor on the skill development activities undertaken by the department. They informed the governor that the state has eight Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) which are imparting training on 21 trades. The department also informed that various programmes and trainings such as apprenticeship training programme, job mela, job and career fair etc have been taken to felicitate the youth.
The officials also mentioned that 2016-17 was declared as the “Year of construction workers” by the state government adding that under the initiative skills of 550 existing construction workers in the state were upgraded.
