Governor, CM greet army personnel on Flag Day

Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN): Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have sent out greetings to the army personnel and their families as India celebrates Armed Forces Flag Day on Dec. 7 to commemorate their services to the country. “On the occasion of the Armed Forces Flag Day, which is being observed throughout the country on 7th December, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all the members of the Armed Forces, ex-servicemen and their families,” said the governor in a statement, adding that it is observed in recognition of the services rendered by armed force personnel in defending the motherland, and to convey solidarity, honour the martyr, salute the veterans and ‘enhance the traditional bonds that exist between the country and the Armed Forces.’ Stating that the day is celebrated to seek public support for rehabilitation of battle casualties families, welfare of serving personnel and their families, and resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, the governor has appealed to all citizens to “contribute generously towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, which will go a long way in supplementing the effort of the governments for welfare of war widows, disabled soldiers and the ex-servicemen and serving soldiers.” “I wish the Flag Day observation every success,” concluded Acharya.   Greetings from CM Neiphiu Rio “The Flag Day is observed on 7th December every year in recognition of the services rendered by personnel of defence services. The aim being to honour the martyrs, veterans and brave soldiers of our nation who have been doing the honorous tasks of defending the country against external aggression and assisting in aid to civil authority including during natural calamities,” said Rio in a statement. The CM said that citizens and volunteer organisations collect donation in exchange of token flags and car stickers during the occasion to help the armed force personnel and their families, and requested the public to contribute towards the cause. “The fund so collected is meant for the noble cause of rehabilitation of war widows, disabled soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families. I appeal to all the citizens for generous contribution for the noble cause,” said the CM. “On this occasion, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all ranks of the army, navy, air force and ex-servicemen, windows and their families. I wish the Armed Forces Flag Day observation a grand success.”
