Dimapur, October 14 : Nagas are one and part of India with 16 important tribes and there is no question of division and loose talk. Instead of condemning ourselves and remaining divided that may attract enemy, let the talks be peaceful and let all the groups come together. We have to address the reason for insurgency rather than result of insurgency and stay united for peace.
State Governor, PB Acharya, said this at Swachh Bharat Mission cum inter cultural exchange programme. The programme was organised by the Tribal Union Chumukedima Town (TUCT) at local ground Chumukedima town on October 14.
Stating that though money is coming from Delhi for Nagaland but corruption is taking control over it which has become a disease destroying our culture, Acharya called on the students to stand up against corruption. He also persuaded both the churches and students to take the lead to address the issue. Emphasising on Nagas’ rich culture, the Governor called on the gathering to uphold one’s mother tongue which is the first identity of an individual and cautioned that ‘it will be suicidal to consider one’s own mother tongue secondary’.
“Nagaland is second to none when it comes to education and Dimapur district has become an important education hub for the state. Universities should be an institute of development, however colleges and universities have produced lots of graduates who are unemployable,” pointed out Acharya. To solve this intimidating concern, Acharya stressed on skill development and advocated on adding skill to our education system so that every student is employable once they graduate with certain skills.
The Governor accentuated on his three E’s- Education, Electricity and Employment which he termed to be vital for state’s development that is missing even with the resources available in the state. Drawing attention to this concern, he remarked people’s fixation with government job which he referred as ‘obedient job’ to be one of the reason.

Thungbemo Patton, EAC of Chumukedima town, who graced the occasion as the guest of honour, called on the gathering to do away with internal strife and learn to appreciate each other. He remarked that it was time for people to change the attitude of internal strife that leaves no room for prosperous society.
Stating that Nagas are negative in thinking where one talks big but without any good actions and implementations, Patton called on the gathering to see positivity in others and not the negative.
Terming Dimapur town ‘saturated,’ he maintained that Chumukedima can be the future for Dimapur town with the accommodative spirit from the community to accept others.
Taking opportunity of the gathering, the administrator mentioned that in the event of conducting town council election, the Chumukedima town in collaboration with tribal leaders will campaign for clean election and added that there will be no room for buying ‘votes through money’.
He also announced that Chumukedima will conduct an intensive Swachh Bharat from November and the best ward will be awarded with Rs1 lakh.
