DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 12: Governor PB Acharya graced the celebration of Dussehra at Assam Rifles ground, Kohima on October 11. The Dussehra, which signifies Hindu God Rama’s victory over demon king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil, was celebrated for the first time by all the Hindu community in Kohima.
Nearly 3,000 devotees gathered at Assam Rifles ground, in spite of heavy rains, to witness the burning of the embodiment of evil in Ravana.
Participating in the Dussehra function, the Governor reiterated that the evils of dowry, caste system, terrorism, poverty and corruption should be discarded.
The festivals are symbolic of strengthening unity and purity in the society.
‘Prasad’ donated by Dimapur devotee Rajiv Jha were distributed among the devotees.
Slogans of Jai Shri Ram were chanted by devotees while Ravana was burnt.
All the devotees were happy that the first ever Dussehra festival was celebrated this year in Kohima.
All devotees in and around Kohima celebrated Dussehra with the burning of the effigy of Ravana at 6 pm.
