Dimapur, Jan 25: Governor PB Acharya appealed to social organisations, professionals, and commercial groups to sponsor girl children for education under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
On the occasion of National Girl Child Day which was observed on January 24, Governor has opened a Bank Account in State Bank of India bearing No. 35843617072. It said cheque amounting Rs 2500 per year per child can be deposited and intimate Governor’s office by E-mail or over phone the sponsor’s name, number of girl child sponsor for education, bank details and date of deposit.
The country observes National Girl Child Day on January 24 to reaffirm and protect the right of the child. The day was also highlighted to educate the citizens and give awareness of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.To empower girl children, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, had evolved policy and programme such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Integrated Child Development Schemes (ICDS), and Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). Besides, the Ministry also setup one stop centres to assist the women affected by violence, gender champion programme, programme in educational institution and also initiated Mahila Police Volunteers.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development also initiated the legal safeguard for the girl child such as Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act 2015, Protection of Child Marriage Act 2006, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, and also Pre- conception and Pre- natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994).
Meanwhile, Longleng observed the National Girls Child Day on January 24in the DC’s conference hall, Longleng. The programme was organised by District Task force on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Longleng with Shamthai Phom, president of Phomla Hoichem, as special guest which was attended by government officials, NGOs, members of Phom Students’ Conference and Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers.
The programme was chaired by Kevingoto Kulnu, EAC Sakshi. Short speech was delivered by Y Denngan Avennoho Phom, DC & Chairman of District Task Force on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Special song was presented by Chingyau Phom & friends, while Lejei Phom of Good Shepherd School, Longleng, recited a poem written by Bina Gupta “Dreams of today’s girl child.” Temsusenla, SDEO Longleng, proposed the vote of thanks.
The special guest, in her speech, highlighted on the importance and significance of National Girls Child Day. She spoke on the importance of girls education and women empowerment.
Two meritorious girls students namely Nyumeila Phom and Ms. Esther Moithei Phom were awarded with scholarship under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. Further, cash incentives were also given to 11 female child born at the District Hospital, Longleng.
