The Union Cabinet has approved an INR 36,441 crore investment for the revamped Khelo India Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
DIMAPUR — The Government of India has approved an investment of INR 36,441 crore for sports for the period 2026-27 to 2030-31 to strengthen the country's sporting ecosystem and create opportunities for youth.
The revamped Khelo India Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to expand and strengthen the sporting ecosystem to develop India into a sporting nation.
According to a press release from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the expanded scheme will focus on grassroots development, identification of talent, athlete development, quality coaching, sports science, competitions, and modern infrastructure. It is designed to provide a structured pathway for athletes from the grassroots level toward national and international competitions.
SAI Training Centres (STCs) will form a key part of the integrated national sports ecosystem, contributing to the identification and development of young talent through structured training.
The initiative will also provide support for athletes through coaching, sports science, competitive exposure, equipment, and high-performance support systems. Special focus will be given to increasing participation and opportunities for women athletes, para-athletes, and indigenous sports.
