
DIMAPUR — The state motor vehicles department has released an official statement detailing the Government of India's commitment to providing compensation for victims of hit-and-run motor accidents.
The initiative aims to offer financial support to those affected by such unfortunate incidents. Under the scheme, victims who have suffered a loss of life could claim compensation of INR 200,000, while those who have sustained grievous injuries are eligible for a compensation amount of INR 50,000.
The application process for claiming compensation has been designed to be both simple and time-bound, ensuring that victims receive the support they need promptly.
Applicants are required to submit their applications to the claims enquiry officer within a month, while the claims enquiry officer forwards the enquiry report to the claims settlement commissioner.
The claims settlement commissioner is responsible for issuing a sanction order within 15 days to the General Insurance Council for the timely transfer of compensation to the applicant, also within 15 days.
