It may also be mentioned that the Chief Minister had, in his Address at the 4th Convocation of NU at SASRD Medziphema on December 5 last, declared that the State Government would be setting up a State Level Committee to go into the matter and examine not only from the point of extending some help to the affected families, but also to inquire into how the entire episode had taken place and to ensure that such sad incidents do not recur.
Regarding to the issue of scholarship, CMO said, there are two components under Post Merit Scholarship, namely, Maintenance Allowance which is fixed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Fee Component which is fixed by the State Government.
However, since 1991, the State Government has not reviewed the Fee Component. The newly constituted Committee has been tasked to address this issue.
