IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Tuesday said the government was considering providing incentives to people who preserve ancient texts and records.
At the 44th Archives Week Celebration and Records Exhibition-2026 held at the Manipur State Archives Complex, he expressed happiness at seeing the collection of archival documents and ancient manuscripts brought by members of the public from their homes.
Appreciating their efforts, he said preserving such records reflects their love for the motherland and commended the initiative of the Department of Art and Culture in bringing these valuable materials into public view.
Singh also said the ancient texts of Manipur contain valuable records of society from ancient times, covering aspects such as archaeology, traditional house architecture, lifestyle, chronicles, stories of queens and knowledge of medicinal plants.
He further said these historical traits form the foundation of Manipuri society and that glimpses of the state's rich heritage and civilisational history can be found in its ancient texts and archival records.
Singh also highlighted the importance of Manipur's indigenous script, stating that Manipur is the only State in Northeast India with its own script.
Expressing appreciation for those who have preserved and safeguarded ancient records through different periods, Singh also said that the government was considering providing incentives to such people as an encouragement for their contribution.
