- DIPHU — The Assam
government has issued an addendum to its earlier directive on official language
use by allowing the Karbi language to be used alongside English in Karbi
Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. This move aims to provide linguistic
inclusion for Karbi-speaking regions.
- The decision followed an earlier notification mandating
Assamese as the official language for government communications, with
exemptions for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Barak Valley, where
Bodo and Bengali are respectively used. English will continue to be used for
administrative coordination with the central government.
- The addendum inserted a new clause Point 3(A), making Karbi
a mandatory language for official correspondence in the specified districts.
