Dimapur, Sep 6 (EMN): Expounding that Nagaland University (NU) was conceived and established with vision by leaders for brighter and greater future, Governor PB Acharya, who is also the Chief Rector of the University, queried if the visions are on the right track.
Addressing a large gathering consisting staff and students of NU in Lumami under Zunheboto district on the occasion of 24th foundation day on September 6, Acharya called upon them to introspect and retrospect how far the University has reached. Asking whether the visions are on the right track, if not, he gave the congregation a wake-up call to change the mindset and go for more research in order to develop and prosper in peace.
Acharya also mentioned on the government’s Look East Policy for more development of the North eastern states of the country, where Nagaland is also one of the beneficiaries. Exhorting that the fruit of prosperity should reach everyone equally, the Chief Rector encouraged the students that knowledge once acquired should be passed on. Stating that achievers should be givers, he asked all the citizens to become nodal agent for change and also be the change.
The welcome address was delivered by Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. PardeshiLal, while short speeches were also delivered from Nagaland University Teacher’s Association (NUTA), Nagaland University Non-Teaching Association and Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU (L)). Thought of concern was shared by former deputy chief minister, IK Sema, who also represented the land owners from Lumami village. Special number was presented by students from Department of Economics, while vote of thanks was proposed by Registrar of Nagaland University.
Earlier on September 5, a civic reception was organised by Lumami village- the land doners for the establishment of the University.
The Governor, in his speech, recalled and acknowledged Lumami village for their great donations of land free of cost for the establishment of the University saying the people will always remain grateful in the history of NU.
Acharya also gave a clarion call that India being a democratic country, it has the potential of becoming great and could compete with advanced nations in all field. And to achieve this goal, he said human resources development is one of the key factors.
Later in the evening, an entertainment programme was also held at IK hall organised and presented by students from the University.
SASRD observes NU foundation day
Dimapur, Sep 6 (EMN): School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development (SASRD), Medziphema Campus, celebrated the 24th Nagaland University (NU) foundation day on September 6 in which special lecture delivered by Prof. DT Khathing, Vice Chancellor of North East Christian University, Medziphema.
Prof. DT Khathing is the former Registrar of NEHU and also former Vice Chancellor of Jharkand Central University.
In his foundation day lecture, Prof. Khathing exhorted the teachers, students and staff of SASRD to be proactive and to keep in mind the necessity of keeping abreast of technological advances so as to be able to compete at the global level. He also stressed on the fact that although digitalisation is important, the human touch and interaction is key in development of character and moral uprightness.
He also exhorted the students not to become job seekers but to become job givers because with the knowledge and skills learned they can become entrepreneurs and establish start ups and thus provide avenues of job opportunities to others.
The programme was chaired by Prof. Akali Sema, while Dr. R Zuyie offered the invocation prayer. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. T Lanusosang, Pro Vice Chancellor, SASRD:NU, while Prof. AK Makar, Dean of SASRD:NU delivered a short exhortation and SASRD EU choir and NU male voice presented special numbers.
The best MTS employee awards for the year 2016-2017 were conferred on Ato Sema, (Agri. Engineering workshop) and Ms Vikholieii, (Horticulture dept.).
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Menolhousie Salhu.
