Dimapur, Aug. 14 (EMN): Nagaland Governor PB Acharya today expressed shock at the demise of Balram Das Tandon, the governor of Chhattisgarh who passed away on Aug. 14 at the age of 91.
In a condolence message, Acharya described Tandon as a close friend who was associated with him for the last 40 years.
He said that the contributions of Tandon as a public leader in various positions for the people of the country, especially for the state of Punjab, will be ever remembered.
Acharya said that Tandon attracted the attention of all with his understanding of public issues, his earnest interest in social works, his administrative ability and his wide knowledge. Tandon's tenure as governor of Chhattisgarh was marked by efficiency and dedication, he added.
Acharya further conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed to God to grant them strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, the Governor has also expressed sadness over the death of the former Lok Sabha speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, on Aug. 13.
The governor said Chatterjee is a distinguished parliamentarian and veteran politician who firmly stood by the principles he believed in.
Governor Acharya has also offered condolences to the family of writer and Nobel Prize winner for Literature, VS Naipaul who passed away at his home in London at the age of 85.
Saying that the passing away of VS Naipaul as a major loss to the literary world, Acharya expressed that Naipaul will be remembered as a writer who enthralled and influenced the world with his keen observation, and creative who had inspired a whole generation of writers.
The governor conveyed condolences to all members of the bereaved families and prayed to the Almighty to grant strength and solace to overcome the grief.
